Pantry Theft

It is with heavy hearts we share this information with you. As you know, the Little Free Food Pantries are utilized consistently. This being said, something has happened lately that many were afraid of. Someone has recently been emptying the Pantries completely.

The Hope House is aware that the Pantries are mostly utilized by those who truly need the items and do not take more than they need. But this individual is taking everything and reselling the items to other members of the homeless community who cannot get to the pantries themselves. This is appalling and can not be tolerated.

Unfortunately, we have decided to stop stocking the Pantries for the time being. We will be putting notices in them so everyone knows. Our office at 137 North Street is open every Saturday morning from 9 am-12 pm. The donations from the community will still be used to purchase food; it will just go in the office pantry for now. Anyone is welcome to come by on Saturday morning and take what they need, or make an appointment via email.

We are not telling the community not to stock the Pantries. We do not feel like we are using donations put aside for the Pantries appropriately now that we know firsthand what is taking place.

We will now use these funds to stock our pantry at 137 North Street.

If you would like to donate to the Hope House of Cocke County to help us continue serving our community, and to help us reach our goal of building a homeless shelter, we hope you will consider donating to the Hope House of Cocke County by check or PayPal Friends and Family.

Checks can be made payable to “Hope House of Cocke County” and mailed to:
